Adding Airspaces to Gaggle
Get official airspacesGaggle has airspaces available for many of the popular regions in the world. To see if we have airspaces for your region, open the Airspace Gallery and browse the available airspaces. You can access the gallery by tapping Record > Settings > Airspaces > Airspace Gallery. If you see a region you would like to add then tap the Add button for the region. Majority of the airspaces in Gaggle are provided by OpenAIP, an open community where you can register to modify and correct airspaces that you notice are incorrect. Gaggle processes airspace updates once a week on Monday's so any edits that you make on OpenAIP will show up in Gaggle the following week. Please make sure you consult the Terms of Use for OpenAIP before making use of any of their airspaces. Currently Gaggle has support for the following airspaces:
Warning: The airspaces shown in Gaggle are retrieved from various sources and it may not be current or accurate. Always consult the official publications for areas you will be flying. |
Add your own personal airspacesIn addition to the official airspaces Gaggle also supports personal airspaces. Personal airspaces come in handy if you want to create your own "No Fly Zones" if you know there are areas where land owners don't want you flying. You can upload personal airspaces by navigating the the Personal tab from the Airspace Gallery. To upload your own personal airspace you need to provide a name, description, and the OpenAIR airspace file. OpenAIR: Gaggle uses plain text files in the OpenAIR format to import personal airspaces. For a full explanation of the OpenAIR format you can read the documentation here. You can also utilise online tools build and view OpenAIR files, XC Guide being one example. But at it's most basic it is a plain TXT file you that you can edit yourself with some basic information in the following format: AC R * <- Airspace Class (A, B, C, P, R, Q) AN My Restricted Airspace Name * <- Airspace Name AL SFC * <- Lower Limit (Surface) AH 2000ft * <- Upper Limit V X=25:51.861N -27:27.669W * <- Coordinates DC 0.3 * <- Draw circle with a 3 nautical miles radius * <- Empty Line indicating end of airspace information |
Customising Airspaces
Once you've added an airspaces you have to option to configure how each one is displayed in Gaggle. Simply tap the airspace that has been installed to open the configurator for that airspace. From the the configurator you can choose if the airspaces should be used (enabled) or not, which airspaces classes are displayed, and the color that will be used to render each airspace class. Tip: To see what your changes will look like open the Airspace Viewer to and browse around the map to see how the airspaces are rendered. |
Airspace Viewer
If you quickly want to look at airspaces for a region that you want to go fly in, or for planning purposes, you can use the built in Airspace Viewer to see all the airspaces in an area. The airspace viewer displays all the airspaces on the map and it also gives high level details about each airspace currently visible on the map such as:
