Hello fellow pilots! We are excited to announce that our latest release is now available and it includes some exciting new features and fixes that we think you will love, especially our paragliding friends. Here's a rundown of everything included in the release:
  1. Support for iPads and Android Tablets: We recognise that many of our users prefer to use tablets instead of phones, so we've added support for iPads and Android Tablets to give you a better experience. Let us know how this works for you and if we need to tweak things a bit.
  2. Additional Information for GPX/KML Exports: We've added more information to GPX/KML exports so you can get even more detailed data about your flights like your fuel consumption, max altitude, and a few other stats.
  3. Route Import/Export Functionality (GPX): You can now import and export routes using GPX format, making it easier to plan and share routes with other pilots.
  4. Info Viewer for Nearby Aircraft: Our new info viewer allows you to see details for aircraft around you, including their altitude. We will now also show the altitude for any aircraft that is going to pass nearby directly on the map so you can quickly see where you need to look.
  5. Thermal Assist Viewer: We've added a new thermal assist viewer to help you visualise thermals. This is an early version and we would love to get your feedback on it.
  6. Fixed Audio Cues: We've fixed some issues with audio cues that weren't behaving correctly with other music apps so you can enjoy uninterrupted flight recordings.
  7. Variometer Improvements: We've made more improvements to the variometer. It is still a work in progress and we would love to get your feedback on it but it should work nicely for most pilots. We'd also like to hear what you think about the ability to change the responsiveness.
  8. Other Small Bug Fixes and Improvements: We've also made some other small bug fixes and improvements to make your experience with Gaggle even better.

We hope you enjoy the new features and fixes in this release. As always, please let us know if you encounter any issues or have any feedback. We wish you many amazing flights in the coming months!

At Gaggle we are always working hard to improve the app for all our pilots to make flying a better experience with every release. We are super excited to announce our latest release today with the brand new partnership and integration with SafeSky! 😃🥳✈️

Through this partnership, you will now see other aircraft within a 25 km radius around you in real-time right inside the Gaggle app. If Gaggle detects an aircraft will be within 1km of the your position in the next two minutes, an audio cue warning will sound, alerting you about the type of aircraft, its current position, altitude, and travel direction. A typical audio cue will sound like "Warning: Helicopter on your 3 0'clock traveling east at 5000 feet". The icon will also turn red on the map so you can quickly see all the aircraft with warnings to look out for. SafeSky gets their data from all kinds of sources so you can expect to see aeroplanes with ADS-B, Mode S, Flarm, OGN, and a lot more! You can see their full list of supported protocols here.

In turn, all Gaggle pilots using the SafeSky feature will also show up in the SafeSky app, enabling aeroplane pilots to gain more awareness of paragliding and paramotor pilots and be better prepared, avoiding unexpected surprises in the air where you might have a close call that you didn’t really want.

To enable the SafeSky feature, Gaggle users need to opt-in by visiting the recording settings menu, tapping SafeSky, and then turning on the integration. Users can set a call sign that SafeSky users will see if they need to address them over radio communications. A privacy mode is also available which will hide the pilot’s call sign and personal information from other pilots while still showing location information.

The new integration between Gaggle and SafeSky is available to anyone to use, regardless if you have Gaggle subscription or not, and you can download the latest update today on both Android or iPhone. We are thrilled about this partnership with SafeSky and together, we hope that we are making the skies safer for everyone.

P.S: If you are a pilot flying other forms of aircraft then head over to the SafeSky website today and see if you can install it. It’s a really great app that integrates seamlessly with other apps used by aeroplane pilots, and I believe it can help all pilots to be safer if everyone joins forces to use it.  The SafeSky is app is available in Europe and a few other countries world wide. If you want get access to the SafeSky app in your country then please reach out to them to see when they are planning to add support for your region.

We've updated our prices

2/12/2022

Gaggle started out as a passion project 2 years ago and it has grown a lot over the years, becoming even more than what we could have imagined. Our small and passionate team really love building Gaggle for the community and we want to do so much more to truly make it the best companion app for pilots all over the world. We aim to help pilots fly more and help grow the community and sport to bring the exhilarating experience of flight to more people. To realise this dream takes time and money which is why we decided to increase subscription prices on the 2nd of December 2022, the 2 year anniversary date of Gaggle. We understand that price increases are never nice but we hope that we can answer some questions about why it’s happening in the blog post.

What are the new prices?

From the 2nd of December 2022 we will be increasing the prices of the annual plan to $39.99 (USD) and the 6-month plan to $19.99 (USD). We are also introducing a monthly plan at $4.00 (USD).

I already paid for my Gaggle subscription, will I be charged more when my subscription renews?

No, you will not be charged more. All existing subscribers will remain at their original prices. Only new subscribers are impacted by the price change. If you cancelled your subscription and you want to subscribe again then you will have to pay the new price.

Why the new prices?

Unlike the other apps made for our sport, Gaggle is updated frequently with features and enhancements, and you as a subscriber receive priority support for any issues that you might raise. In order for us to continue adding more features and functionality to Gaggle we need your support so that we can give as much time and attention as possible to it.

In addition to the time and effort needed to improve Gaggle, we also make use of a lot of external services in Gaggle. Your flights and log books are always stored securely in the cloud, sharing routes and seeing friends nearby is seamless and works out of the box, and you get to visualise your flights in 3D. To provide all of this functionality we use 3rd party service providers that each have a cost associated and to make this sustainable going into the future we need to increase prices.

Will there be more price increases in the future?

We will evaluate prices for Gaggle once a year, but this may not result in price increases every year. We stay highly engaged with the flight community, and test decisions with real pilots before making them. You can rest assured that if we do ever increase prices in a way that affects you then we will give you notice and the option to cancel your subscription. You will always have access to your raw flight data even if you do decide to cancel your subscription with Gaggle.

Will there be more affordable options in future?

We want all pilots to enjoy and benefit from Gaggle so we continue to offer our free tier where you can record and view your flights. Functionality that requires external services or significant processing on our end will remain a premium feature. We are also introducing the monthly plan so that you have more freedom to cancel / pause your subscription to save costs when you won’t be flying for an extended period of time. We are also looking at the possibility of introducing new pricing structures that will allow you to buy premium access for shorter periods of time when you know you will be flying often.

Is there anything I can do to contribute to Gaggle?

Definitely! We are always looking for friends of Gaggle that can help us test new features and that will give us new ideas for features that you would like. Send us an email at [email protected].
